About Us

In 1962 the Staveley Works Angling Club was founded by members of the Staveley Works sports and social club. For years the club leased the waters of Foxlow at Staveley, Chesterfield and although the club was always well supported in 1988 due to the discontinuation of the works social club, new residency was sought and the angling club was renamed Barrow Hill Memorial Angling Club.

During the 1990's the club made positive moves towards securing the future of the club and new club waters were leased from Derbyshire County Council. The Chesterfield Canal became the main fisheries of the club and with more to offer, the club was able to attract new members.

Throughout the clubs history the match section has always been very popular, in fact the very first match held attracted so many anglers the club required two coaches to transport everyone. Rising pegs fees and transport costs have ended those sort of outings and it has become necessary to restrict the number of match members to an easier manageable 20 people.

The club has moved forward over the last decade and with a dedicated committee it is looking to further it's position in the angling world.
